Hi,

I got this bizzar case.

I have been trying to configure rpc over http for a client for days but
without joy. I have checked and double checked the setting on server as well
as on client outlook 2003. All the setting which I did was same as my other
client but this one, I keep getting errors of saying can't connect to server
and also the name are not resolved.

Today, I tried on another m/c, did the same client configuration (today, not
ever check on the server setting) and it works. Hooray, but too soon. I
tried it on the m/c which I have been using for the last day or two. I still
get the same error as previously which say 'The connection to the Microsoft
Exchange service is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to
complet this action'.

My query is how come at the same time, outlook 2003 sp2, same config but
work on one m/c and not working on another one.

Not having a good day, any help ????

Many thanks in advance.

HTTP or HTTPS?

If S, check to see if the certificate is trusted and/or installed on the
client PC.

Is it working when you test the client without RPC/HTTPS ticked?
Check that the workstation does have the root certificate on it, it
may be missing for some inexplicable reason.

Hi everyone,

Bear with me. I am very very new to this and when I managed to get one
client work, I tended to do the same setting for everyone.

The certificate is installed.

I am afraid, I don't understand where to set the http / https ?

I'm a little confused. If you don't know how to set it up, how are
you troubleshooting it?
Take a look at:
http://www.google.com/search?q=rpc+https&rls=com.microsoft:*:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7GGIC
and then see the articles on the client side. I will assume the server
side is working ok since you say it's working on another client.

It would be good, if you do need more help, if you could elaborate on
what you're troubleshooting, and how.

Thanks Mark.

Sorry I didn't make myself clearer. The server business, all round, in very
area, is new to me. I am still finding my footing. I don't really understand
how the whole thing work but I did managed to setup on some clients.

However with the latest client. I did exactly the same thing but work on one
m/c but not work on another m/c. Even I used the same user to setup both
m/cs.

Thanks for the link.

Have a good day,

I DO know how to set all this up and have started having a similar issue.

I have a couple of dozen users in this particular network who have been
using outlook over RPC for months. These clients can connect and are working
perfectly. However for some reason NEW configurations simply don't work -
with the same types of messages.

So far it has me stumped.

This is a recent development - our last round of patching was for DST2007,
with the last patching cycle about two months prior - and this problem has
only occured for us since then.

I'm still trying to figure out what is going on.

Have the same problem, but only with new Outlook 2007 (rpc-over-http)
clients. New Outlook 2003 clients working fine....

Don't see any errors on server or a client... frustrating...

Yes, I know. I have had one of client working for month. Nothing had changed
then one of the m/c doesn't work at all while others are working fine.

Agreed Very frustrating.
